Subnautica 2 players can finally talk to each other in the water. The Buddy System update brings the long-awaited proximity chat to the underwater adventure game. This change matters because it transforms the experience from a solo survival trip into a cooperative or competitive multiplayer event. Players on PC and Xbox can now coordinate their dives in real time.

Update 1.2 brings voice chat and trading to PC and Xbox

Unknown Worlds released version 1.2 of Subnautica 2 on August 19. The patch adds several social features that were missing since launch. You can now use emotes to communicate without speaking. The update also introduces player trading, which allows you to share resources with others. Two new characters, Jegna and Grace, join the roster for customization.

  • Update Name: Buddy System
  • Version: 1.2
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox
  • New Features: Proximity Chat, Player Revives, Emotes, Player Trading, New Characters

The update includes technical improvements to base building. You will see placement UI guides to help you align structures. The move mode has received fixes to make repositioning easier. A functional trashcan now exists to help manage clutter. These changes make building your underwater home more intuitive and less frustrating.

Unknown Worlds stated that the download brings the hugely requested Proximity Chat feature, Player Revives, Emotes, Player Trading, two new characters. The patch also addresses multiplayer desync issues and creature AI bugs. Visual glitches have been corrected to improve stability. These fixes ensure that the new social features run smoothly without technical hiccups.
