A new 3D-printed modification provides the Machine with a functional upgrade that owners have long wanted. The redesign transforms the front faceplate into a dedicated docking station for the Steam Controller and its charging puck. This modification addresses a common issue for users who struggle to keep the controller and its charging base organized on a TV stand.

3D-printed design adds charging puck support to front panel

Reddit user u/NefariousnessWhole25 created the design using Autodesk Fusion and Valve's publicly released CAD files. The mod integrates a right-angle USB-C connector to handle power delivery directly into the dock. It uses a combination of friction fits and magnets to secure the charging puck in place. The creator designed this to make the existing hardware feel more complete and intentional.

The mount is designed to be removable, allowing it to function as a standalone charging dock when detached from the machine. This flexibility allows users to place the controller and puck anywhere in their setup without running long cables back to the console. The design relies on precise geometry to ensure the magnets hold the puck securely during normal use. It adds utility to a component that previously served only an aesthetic purpose.

The creator has not yet decided whether to release the printable files or sell the finished product. Source reports indicate that interest in the mod is high, but release plans remain unclear. This mod highlights how the Steam Machine community continues to improve the hardware with simple, effective additions. The docking solution offers a practical way to manage accessories without cluttering the entertainment center.
