Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone is considering adding a cheating mechanic to the game. In a recent interview, Barone said he is open to letting players cheat on their in-game partners. However, the feature would come with serious consequences.
Barone considers infidelity mechanic
Barone stated that non-player characters would not be accepting of infidelity. He said everyone would hate the player, causing chaos and suffering. The family would be ruined. Barone emphasized that the consequences would be severe.
Barone is torn on the idea. He questioned whether such a mechanic is appropriate for Stardew Valley. He noted that the game is meant to be an escape from real-world problems. Adding cheating might be too realistic for the cozy farming simulator.
Barone explained his philosophy that in a sandbox game, players should be able to do wicked things and face the consequences. He has not confirmed whether the feature will be added. The decision remains uncertain.
