Sony Interactive Entertainment filed a patent to use artificial intelligence for picture-in-picture content during game loading and matchmaking wait times on PlayStation consoles.
The system predicts how long players will need to wait. It then selects short-form content such as videos, highlights, or analysis that fits the remaining time window. The technology includes AI-generated match analysis and player scouting reports. Players can interact with overlays using their controller. The console caches this content locally for quick access.
If a game finishes loading before the scheduled time ends, the system stops the content or fades it out smoothly. This transition ensures players jump directly into gameplay without interruption. Potential applications include pre-match eSports-style summaries that show opponent skill levels, loadouts, and playstyles.
The patent describes concepts that Sony may never implement in commercial products. Patents often outline experimental ideas that do not reach consumers. MP1st reported on the filing and noted that the features might remain theoretical.
Sony has not confirmed whether this technology will appear in future PlayStation systems.
