A sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. has shattered auction records, selling for $3 million at Heritage Auctions. The sale nearly doubles the previous record of $2 million for the same title set in 2021. This copy comes from the 1985 second production run, sealed with a glossy sticker rather than shrink-wrap.

Auction includes working NES console

The game is for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Heritage Auctions included a working NES console with the sale. According to the auction house, it is the earliest known sealed copy in existence.

The copy received a grade of 9.6 A++ from Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA). That grade reflects its exceptional condition and rarity. The glossy sticker seal distinguishes this copy from later shrink-wrapped versions.

This sale sets a new benchmark for vintage video game auctions. The previous record for a sealed Super Mario Bros. was $2 million in 2021. The inclusion of a working NES console adds practical value for collectors.
