Rockstar Games is offering last-generation owners of Grand Theft Auto V a free upgrade to the next-gen versions. The move allows players who purchased the title on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One to access enhanced editions on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S without additional cost.
Last-generation owners can automatically download enhanced versions on current hardware without paying extra.
The program targets existing GTA 5 buyers from the previous console cycle. The company designed the program so that players using their original console accounts will automatically download the updated version upon signing in.
The next-generation editions deliver superior visuals, quicker loading speeds, and additional settings that were not available on previous consoles. Players can continue their existing progress in both single-player campaigns and multiplayer sessions without losing any saved data.
The free upgrade applies specifically to digital and disc copies of GTA 5 from the last generation. The developer announced the free upgrade program via their own official platforms, distinguishing it from standard store-based deals.
