A custom firmware called ROCKNIX is now available for the Miniloong Pocket 1 handheld gaming device. The AURKNIX branch replaces the stock operating system entirely. Users who install it report a major improvement in performance and usability.
Installation requires flashing an SD card
The installation process involves flashing an SD card and editing a .conf file to change the device tree blob. ROCKNIX delivers better performance, lower audio latency, and support for a 90Hz display refresh rate. The display can be set to 90.792000 Hz globally. Audio latency drops to 32ms, compared to 128ms on the stock OS. The stock MiniloongOS suffered from poor performance, audio lag, and non-functional Wi-Fi for over-the-air updates.

According to retrohandhelds.gg, the stock OS was so bad that it made the RK3566 chip with 1GB of RAM seem inadequate for simple Super Nintendo games. The custom firmware transforms the device into what the source calls a "budget KING." The source notes that Wi-Fi issues on the stock OS may be unit-specific, as it did not work on two test units.
