Retroid released early footage of the Pocket Nova handheld, giving buyers a clear look at its emulation power before the device ships. This preview matters because the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip inside the unit targets high-end retro gaming that previous budget devices could not handle. You can expect smooth performance for demanding GameCube and PS2 titles right out of the box.

Early footage confirms PS2 and GameCube emulation on the new handheld

The Pocket Nova arrives with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, a significant upgrade for the brand's mid-range lineup. Retroid team member Chris tested the hardware ahead of launch to verify these performance claims. The device physically matches the compact size of the earlier Retroid Pocket Mini, keeping portability consistent for existing fans.

Retroid Pocket Nova Specifications

  • Processor: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
  • Storage Configurations: 8GB, 12GB
  • Price (8GB): $229.00
  • Price (12GB): $269.00

Retroid offers two storage configurations to suit different budgets and library sizes. The base model comes with 8GB of RAM and costs $229.00 USD (around $229). Buyers who need more headroom for larger emulators can choose the 12GB version for $269.00 USD (around $269).

Hands-on demonstrations show the Nova handling F-Zero GX on GameCube and God of War 2 on PS2 without issues. The system also supports Retroid's Dual Screen Add-on for playing Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS. These tests confirm the hardware can manage complex multi-screen and high-fidelity retro games effectively.
