SOFTWARE AND UPDATES

Sony is raising the cost of PlayStation Plus subscriptions for new members in select regions. The company announced the price adjustment on May 18, 2026. The changes take effect on May 20, 2026. Sony cited ongoing market conditions as the primary reason for the increase.

Sony increases subscription costs for new customers in select regions due to market conditions.

The new pricing structure applies to one-month and three-month subscription tiers. One-month plans for new customers will cost 10.99 USD (about $10.99), 9.99 EUR (about $11.61), or 7.99 GBP (about $10.64). Three-month plans will rise to 27.99 USD (about $27.99), 27.99 EUR (about $27.99), or 21.99 GBP (about $21.99). This represents a $1 or £1 increase for the monthly option and a $3 or £3 increase for the quarterly option.

The price hike targets only new subscribers in the affected regions. Current subscribers retain their existing rates unless they let their subscription lapse or change tiers. Exceptions to this exemption exist for subscribers in Turkey and India. These users will see their prices adjust according to the new rates.

This update affects the PlayStation Plus Essential tier, which serves as the entry-level service for the platform. The adjustment aligns with broader industry trends of subscription services increasing costs to manage operational expenses. Sony has not confirmed whether the price increase will extend to higher tiers like Extra or Premium at this time.
