PC gamers running Palworld on high-end hardware now have a way to push the game’s visuals significantly further, though the trade-off is steep. Modder Fr4nsson released an Ultra Graphics Mod for Palworld 1.0 that adds ray-traced lighting and dynamic shadows. This update matters because it transforms the default Unreal Engine rendering in a title that typically relies on standard screen-space effects. Players with top-tier components can now see how the game looks with advanced global illumination, but they must accept a major performance hit to get there.

Modder Fr4nsson enables Lumen ray tracing and dynamic shadows for Palworld 1.0

The mod targets the core rendering pipeline of Palworld, which runs on Unreal Engine. It introduces Lumen global illumination and Lumen reflections, features that calculate light behavior in real time rather than using baked or screen-space approximations. The modder also increased the distance-field shadow range from 25,000 to 250,000 units. This change allows shadows to appear correctly at much greater distances, removing the flat, shadowless look common in the vanilla game at high zoom levels.

Implementing these visual upgrades requires manual configuration and specific dependencies. Users must install UE4SS and apply the provided Engine.ini settings to enable the new rendering paths. The configuration file sets the global illumination and reflection quality to maximum levels and disables hardware ray tracing in favor of software-based Lumen tracing. It also increases shadow resolution for sun and moon shadows from the vanilla 2048 to 4096 pixels. These settings force the GPU to perform significantly more calculations per frame.

Performance testing on a high-end system reveals the cost of these graphical enhancements. The test hardware consisted of an Ryzen 9 9950X3D, an 5090, and 64GB of RAM. The vanilla game ran at 152 FPS at 4K resolution with max settings on this system. Adding the mod alone reduced the frame rate to 142 FPS. Applying the Engine.ini changes for full ray-traced effects dropped the performance further to 92 FPS, representing a roughly 40% drop from the vanilla baseline.
