released RTX Remix 1.5 to help modders remaster older PC games without writing code. The update adds a new feature called Smooth Normals that softens the blocky look of classic polygons through path tracing. NVIDIA also introduced RTX IO support, which speeds up game loading and shrinks file sizes for mods.

AI-powered text instructions and RTX IO support streamline classic PC game modding workflows

RTX Remix 1.5 ships via GitHub and the NVIDIA App on Windows PC platforms. The tool lets users apply ray tracing to older titles like Portal with RTX and Half-Life 2. Modders are already using it to remaster Dark Souls, Dragon Age: Origins, and Titanfall 2.

The new version cuts mod file sizes significantly. A mod for Portal with RTX now weighs 17GB instead of the previous 25GB. The Half-Life 2 RTX demo dropped from 80GB down to 50GB. RTX IO helps stream assets faster while keeping installation footprints small.

NVIDIA added RTX Remix Skills as text-based instructions that guide AI coding agents through modding tasks. This feature allows users without programming experience to modify games using natural language prompts. We looked at RTX Remix earlier while tracking NVIDIA launches.
