Team Ninja pushed a major update for Nioh 3 on August 18, and players on PC and PS5 need to download it to access the new content. This patch is mandatory for everyone who owns the base game, even if you do not plan to buy the upcoming DLC. The update brings significant changes to damage scaling and difficulty options that affect how you tackle the game's toughest encounters.

Mandatory patch unlocks new difficulty and removes long-standing damage limits
The primary reason for this update is the launch of the first DLC, titled Hell Rising. Team Ninja released the DLC alongside patch version 2.000.010 to ensure all players are on the same technical baseline. You must install the update to play the new story content, and the system will prompt you to download it automatically.
- Patch Version: 2.000.010
- DLC Name: Hell Rising
- Platforms: PC, PS5
- New Difficulty: Enlightened One’s Journey
- Elemental Damage Cap: 999,999
The patch introduces a new difficulty mode called Enlightened One’s Journey. You unlock this mode only after completing the existing Shogun’s Journey difficulty. The update also raises the elemental damage cap from 65,535 to 999,999, allowing for much higher damage numbers in combat. This change removes a long-standing limit that capped the effectiveness of elemental builds.
Beyond the new difficulty and damage cap, the patch applies balance changes to Ki damage and several set bonuses. It adjusts the Unmatched Warrior, General of Ruin, and Grace of Benzaiten sets to fine-tune their power levels. The developers also fixed bugs related to Guardian Spirit Skills and Ninjutsu interactions to improve multiplayer stability.
