Steam Deck owners who miss the tactile feel of boxed games now have a free tool to recreate that experience. The new website, My Game Shelf, lets users generate print-ready covers and labels for their digital libraries. This bridges the gap between digital ownership and the physical aesthetics that many collectors prefer.
Free tool creates print-ready covers for digital libraries
The project was created by Reddit user u/Embarrassed_Mix_8072, who launched the site to satisfy a personal desire for physical PC game packaging. The tool currently supports Steam games, requiring only the App ID or URL to generate the necessary print files. Users can then insert these printed covers into standard Nintendo Switch-sized cases to complete the look.
To make the system functional, users install individual games onto microSD cards and place them in the custom cases. This approach mimics the physical media workflow, though it introduces specific hardware trade-offs. The cases themselves are affordable, with a ten-pack currently costing around $25 on Amazon.
Performance implications are a key consideration for this setup. microSD cards are slower than the Steam Deck's internal SSD, which can result in longer installation and loading times. Some users also warn that frequently swapping cards could put additional wear on the microSD card slot over time. The developer plans to add support for additional platforms, particularly GOG, in the future.
