A new DIY adapter called Motecast lets players use a Wii Remote with a Sega Dreamcast via Bluetooth. The project was created by a developer known as Yombo and was submitted to the DreamDisc '25 game jam.
Motion sensing reads at 8-12 samples per second
The adapter reads motion sensing input at a rate of 8 to 12 samples per second. According to Yombo, this rate is well short of what would be needed for demanding real-time responsiveness.
Instructions for building a Motecast are available on Codeberg. The project is open for anyone to assemble themselves.
The adapter bridges two retro gaming platforms, offering a novel way to control Dreamcast games with motion controls. It remains a DIY effort rather than a commercial product.
