Capcom is bringing Monster Hunter Wilds to the Nintendo Switch 2 on December 5. This release matters because it expands the game's reach to handheld players who missed the initial launch on PC and consoles. The Switch 2 version includes all free DLC updates, such as new monsters and local co-op support. Buyers can finally access the full experience on portable hardware without waiting for future ports.

Capcom rebuilds assets from scratch for Switch 2 port
The game targets a stable 30 FPS in handheld mode, even during four-player multiplayer hunts. Genki Sunano, a Capcom producer, stated that the team rebuilt assets and shaders from scratch for the Switch 2 version. This effort aimed to preserve the original look while improving efficiency. The goal was to avoid a simple port where graphics were merely scaled down.
- Target Frame Rate: Stable 30 FPS
- Target Platform: Nintendo Switch 2
- Launch Date: December 5

"We didn't want it to feel like a simple port, where the graphics or performance had merely been scaled down to make the game run on Nintendo Switch 2," Sunano said. "Instead, our goal was to bring the Wilds experience to Nintendo Switch 2 without compromising the experience of Monster Hunter Wilds." He added that the optimization process was painstaking and seemed endless at times. The team made decisions and optimizations one by one to meet these standards.
This port follows the release of the Prologue Demo on PS5, Xbox, and PC. Our coverage of the last Monster Hunter Wilds update highlighted similar balance and stability themes. Optimization lessons from the Switch 2 port will also apply to performance improvements on existing platforms. These improvements will precede the upcoming Ascendance expansion.
The Switch 2 version launches globally on December 5. This release completes the game's availability across major current-generation platforms. Players can now join hunts on the new handheld alongside console and PC users.
