DDR4 costs kill the Z28; Linux handheld Mini40 targets $49
The vendor is proposing the MagicX Mini40 as a spiritual successor to the discontinued Z28. MagicX stated that the Mini40 aims to be a 'spiritual successor to the Z28.' The company is currently gauging community interest before committing to full production. Development for this new device has not started yet.

Input controls on the Mini40 include dual Hall-effect joysticks and redesigned ABXY buttons. The D-pad is larger than the one found on the Mini28. The system includes dual speakers and supports HDMI output. Storage relies on dual SD card slots rather than internal flash.
MagicX aims to price the Mini40 at $49 before shipping costs. This figure represents a target price rather than a confirmed manufacturer's suggested retail price. The device is not yet available for purchase globally. The company is waiting for sufficient interest signals before moving forward.
