Huawei confirms global launch for the Pura 90 series on July 14. The Pro Max features a 200MP telephoto lens and Kirin 9030S chipset.

Huawei is preparing to release the Pura 90 series globally, and the timing matters for anyone tracking high-end smartphone cameras. The company has confirmed a launch event in Kuala Lumpur on July 14, 2026, which will introduce three new models to the market. This update brings significant hardware changes to the lineup, particularly in imaging capabilities and processing power. Buyers interested in the latest mobile photography tools should note the immediate availability window for these devices.

Flagship models ship with Kirin 9030S and HarmonyOS 6.1

The lineup consists of the standard Pura 90, the Pura 90 Pro, and the Pura 90 Pro Max. The base model features a 6.84-inch 1.5K flat display and houses a 6,500mAh battery within a slim 6.9mm frame. It weighs 203 grams, making it one of the lighter options in this size class. The Pro and Pro Max models step up to a 6.6-inch and 6.9-inch display respectively, while sharing the same internal architecture.

Spec comparison

Spec Pura 90 Pura 90 Pro Pura 90 Pro Max
Display 6.84-inch 1.5K flat 6.6-inch 6.9-inch
Main Camera Not specified 50MP variable aperture 50MP
Telephoto Not specified 50MP, 4x optical 200MP, 8x optical-quality
Battery 6,500mAh 6,000mAh 6,000mAh
Chipset Not specified Kirin 9030S Kirin 9030S

Both the Pro and Pro Max variants run on the new Kirin 9030S chipset and operate on HarmonyOS 6.1. They include a 13MP front-facing camera and feature Kunlun glass for durability. The Pro model sports a 50MP main sensor with a variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0, a 12.5MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom. The Pro Max pushes the imaging hardware further with a 50MP main sensor, a 40MP ultra-wide camera, and a massive 200MP periscope telephoto lens. This top-tier lens supports 4x optical zoom and up to 8x optical-quality zoom.

Huawei claims the telephoto system captures far more light than rival flagships, a statement that suggests improved low-light performance. The standard Pura 90 starts at 4,699 YUAN (around $692) in China, which is around $692. While global pricing details remain unrevealed, the global launch is scheduled for next week. We looked at Huawei Pura 100 Series Rumored to in our earlier Huawei coverage.

The Pura 90 series marks a clear shift in Huawei's hardware strategy with the introduction of the Kirin 9030S. The inclusion of a 200MP telephoto sensor in the Pro Max model sets a new benchmark for mobile zoom capabilities. Consumers will have to wait for the July 14 event to see how the global pricing compares to the Chinese launch price. The immediate focus remains on the hardware specifications and the confirmed global release date.
