HP has refreshed its OmniBook 3 16 laptop with a faster processor and a high-refresh-rate screen, targeting users who need responsive multitasking and smooth visuals without paying for a dedicated graphics card. This configuration update matters because it brings a 240 Hz display and a newer Ryzen chip to a budget-friendly chassis, offering better performance per dollar for students and office workers. Buyers looking for a capable everyday laptop with a premium display feel can now consider this model while it is available.

New configuration targets budget users with high refresh rate screen

The new configuration centers on the AMD Ryzen 7 H 255 processor, which features eight cores and 16 threads with boost speeds reaching 4.9 GHz. This chip includes Radeon 780M integrated graphics, allowing the laptop to handle light gaming and video editing without a separate GPU. HP lists the device as the OmniBook 3 16 in global markets, though it appears as the StarBook 16 in its primary launch region.

Specifications

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 H 255 (8 cores, 16 threads, up to 4.9 GHz, Radeon 780M)
  • Display: 16-inch, 2560 x 1600 resolution, 240 Hz refresh rate, 16:10 aspect ratio, 400 nits, 100% sRGB
  • Memory: 16 GB DDR5-5600 (upgradable to 32 GB)
  • Storage: 1 TB PCIe SSD (upgradable to 2 TB)
  • Battery: 68 Wh

Visuals come from a 16-inch panel with a 2560 x 1600 resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The screen supports a 240 Hz refresh rate, reaches 400 nits of brightness, and covers 100 percent of the sRGB color space. Inside, the system ships with 16 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM, which HP allows users to upgrade to 32 GB. Storage starts at 1 TB and can be expanded to 2 TB using the available M.2 slot.

The chassis measures 14.7 mm thick and weighs 1.64 kg, providing a portable form factor for daily commuting. HP pairs the 68 Wh battery with a 100 W charging adapter to manage power delivery. Connectivity includes USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and Wi-Fi 6 support. Benchmark data from Notebookcheck shows the Ryzen 7 H 255 scores about 13 percent higher overall than the Ryzen 5 240, with multi-core Cinebench 2024 results averaging 914 points against 654 points.

HP currently lists this configuration in China for 6,399 yuan (around $949). The laptop is available for purchase in that region now, but HP has not announced pricing or availability for other markets. We looked at similar budget gaming laptops earlier while tracking AMD mobile chip releases.
