Players running Grand Theft Auto IV on PC can now access modern upscaling technologies that were never part of the original release. A new community mod called DLSS-IV brings native support for NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR to the title. This update matters because it offers a straightforward way to improve frame rates and visual clarity without altering the core game files.
Community mod brings modern upscaling and HDR to the legacy title
The mod is developed by a user known as ChunkLeChuck. It integrates directly with FusionFix, which serves as the foundation for the graphical enhancements. Users must install FusionFix first before applying the DLSS-IV mod to ensure proper functionality. The tool also implements HDR support by utilizing the Xbox 360 gamma curve.
Performance testing reveals modest gains across different upscaling modes. DLSS Quality mode achieved 181 FPS, marking a 3.4 percent improvement over the vanilla version. FSR Quality performed slightly better at 182.4 FPS, representing a 4.2 percent gain. The fastest option was FSR Ultra Performance, which reached 183.1 FPS for a 4.6 percent increase.
The mod handles AMD hardware by defaulting to FSR 4 for Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 series GPUs. Cards outside these series use FSR 3.1.5 automatically. DXVK forms the basis of the graphics API layer for the implementation. Tests also showed that native anti-aliasing modes like FSR Native AA and DLAA ran slower than the standard game.
The DLSS-IV mod is available for global download. Players can obtain the files from the Nexus Mods page for Grand Theft Auto IV. This release provides a practical solution for users seeking better performance in a legacy title.
