Google is expanding what Gemini can do for daily life by letting the AI assistant handle phone calls on your behalf. This change matters because it removes the friction of waiting on hold or navigating complex automated menus for routine tasks. Users who spend time booking appointments or checking product availability can now delegate those interactions to an automated agent.

AI handles reservations and quotes while skipping hold times

The new capability, called "Call for me," allows Gemini to act as a proxy for standard business inquiries. The assistant can check product availability, request price quotes, make reservations, and even wait on hold while you do other things. Google stated, "With the new “Call for me” feature, the AI assistant is now set to take care of that as well."

This feature requires specific hardware and software conditions to function properly. You must use a Pixel 11 device with a US SIM card and have English set as the device language. A Google AI subscription is also mandatory, and the feature is currently available only in the public beta of the Phone app.

Google has placed strict boundaries on what the AI can and cannot do during these calls. The assistant is prohibited from making emergency calls, marketing calls, or completing payments. It also cannot share credit card numbers, passwords, or health information. To maintain transparency, Gemini identifies itself as an assistant and records calls, storing transcripts on servers and audio on the device.

Google announced a gradual rollout of this feature starting November 24, 2026. The service is initially limited to users in the United States who are at least 18 years old. The exact daily call limit remains unspecified by Google, though a cap exists. It is also unclear when or if the feature will expand to other countries. For now, US-based Pixel 11 owners with a subscription can begin using the assistant for routine calls starting this week.
