Google released the August 2026 security patch for Pixel devices on August 4, 2026. The update carries build number CP2A.260805.005 and raises the security patch level to August 5, 2026. This release skips six older models that remain supported until 2028. Buyers of Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel 7a devices will not receive this fix. These users must wait for the next scheduled update to close a high-severity vulnerability.

Older models miss critical fix while newer devices receive update

The patch targets CVE-2026-0163, a high-severity elevation of privilege flaw in the video processing unit. Google includes this fix in builds for Pixel 8 and newer devices. The affected models include the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel 7a. These six models are missing from the August rollout. They remain on the July build number CP2A.260705.006.

  • Security Patch Level: August 5, 2026
  • Build Number: CP2A.260805.005
  • Affected CVE: CVE-2026-0163
  • Affected Devices: Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a
  • Supported Devices: Pixel 8 and newer

This exclusion follows a pattern where February and May updates also skipped these models. June and July updates did include the older devices. Google has not named a schedule for the next patch. Droid Life has been asking since October 2025 and has not received a straight answer. The company has not provided a clear explanation for the exclusion.

We looked at the last Pixel update earlier while tracking Google releases. Several of the same balance and stability themes came up in that coverage. The current situation leaves older Pixel users without a critical security fix for the current month. The next patch will determine if this pattern continues or if the older devices receive their expected update.

Google ships the August security patch to Pixel 8 and newer devices. The update addresses a specific vulnerability in the video processing unit. Older Pixel models remain on the July build. Users of these devices should monitor for the next scheduled release.
