Repair specialists identify power delivery circuit as root cause

The investigation focused on the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 AERO, a specific variant of the RTX 4060. Repair technicians Paulo Gomes and SidNelson analyzed multiple damaged units to understand the failure pattern. They compared the faulty boards against a working GIGABYTE card and an Inno3D RTX 4060 to isolate the problem. The analysis revealed that the issue is internal to the card's power delivery system rather than an external connection fault.

The core technical failure lies in the VRM current-sense network. The resistor and capacitor values across the four feedback paths feeding the PWM controller were inconsistent. This inconsistency caused uneven load balancing across the VRM phases. One MOSFET became overloaded while the others remained within specifications. The overloaded component eventually shorted and burned, creating heavy carbonization on the PCB near the HDMI output.

Initial suspicions pointed to the HDMI port as the source of the burns. The repair specialists traced the issue back to the VRM design flaw instead. The damaged boards show distinct signs of PCB carbonization near the video output. This physical evidence confirms that the power delivery circuit is the primary point of failure. The defect is not related to the video signal transmission itself.

GIGABYTE has not issued a public response regarding these reports. It remains unclear whether this defect is isolated to a specific production batch or affects a wider range of units.
