Human Things showcased the Genki Manta at Gamescom, highlighting its unique architecture built around a Raspberry Pi RP2350 chip. The controller runs MantaOS, an operating system that manages the device's inputs and display features. This setup allows the hardware to function as a standalone smart device rather than a simple input dongle.
The hardware design prioritizes precision and customization through several advanced components. It features Tunnel Magnetoresistance (TMR) joysticks that allow users to adjust resistance by turning the sticks. The action buttons provide analog input instead of standard on-off states, and adjustable travel triggers offer further control over movement. Maglev linear motors deliver haptic feedback that the manufacturer describes as precise and configurable.
The controller supports eight saved profiles for different game configurations and is compatible with PCs, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. Human Things claims the analog buttons enable precise throttle and brake control in racing games, while the TMR joysticks offer customizable resistance. The display unit shown at the event is still a work in progress and may change before the final product ships.
Current crowdfunding support stands at roughly $200 USD (around $200) for the Genki Manta. Shipping is not scheduled until February, giving the manufacturer time to finalize the display and software ecosystem. If an ecosystem develops around MantaOS, it could potentially provide significant added value for users who want deep integration with their gaming setups.
