Community tool enhances lighting realism for PC players
The modification targets the core rendering pipeline of the Unreal Engine 4 title used by the game. Modder David Matos built a PC shader injector that directly interacts with the UE4 Deferred Directional Light Pixel Shader. He also upgraded the BRDFs within the shader code to support the new lighting calculations. This technical approach allows the game engine to process shadow data differently than the original release intended.
The modder is currently developing the tool and has shared a preview of the work in progress. The software modifies how the game calculates shadows for objects that were previously excluded from shadow maps. By filling these gaps with ray-traced shadows, the update reduces the floaty appearance of various in-game assets. The visual impact makes these objects feel more grounded and realistic within the game world.
This technical enhancement follows other community modifications for the title, including a 4K texture pack and a first-person mode mod. It also arrives shortly after the official 1.090 update added streamlined progression features to the game.
