Fallout 4 players can now replace the game’s default visuals with a massive 85GB texture overhaul called Project V.A.U.L.T. This mod significantly increases visual fidelity for those willing to manage the large file size and potential performance impact. It targets every visible asset in the game, from character models to environmental details, offering a complete visual refresh.
Modder Xenjoii85 releases 85GB pack to improve every visible asset
Modder Xenjoii85 created Project V.A.U.L.T. as a comprehensive 4X vanilla texture overhaul for Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic role-playing game. The project aims to improve each and every texture in the game while strictly preserving the original art direction. It covers characters, environments, and non-player characters without altering the intended aesthetic of the original release.
The mod utilizes modern BC7 block compression to manage the 85GB file size efficiently. It processes each texture in a single pass to maintain sharpness and avoid blur, noise, or smudges. The overhaul preserves original material properties, including alpha channels, specular maps, and surface shader values. This technical approach ensures that the textures retain their original color and physical characteristics.
Project V.A.U.L.T. provides 4X resolution textures, which the modder claims offer 16 times the pixel detail. According to Xenjoii85, this resolution provides a good balance between image quality and performance to keep frame rates smooth. The mod aims to maintain Bethesda's original art direction without introducing noise artifacts. Players can download the mod from Nexus Mods.
