The indie detective RPG Esoteric Ebb is finally moving toward multilingual support, a shift that matters for players who have waited years for non-English versions. Developer Christoffer Bodegård confirmed that the backend text system has been completely updated in a recent test build to enable this work. This infrastructure change allows the studio to finally translate the game after lacking the time to do so earlier in development.

Backend overhaul enables multilingual support for the indie detective RPG
Esoteric Ebb is a Disco Elysium-style role-playing game that relies heavily on dense text and narrative choices. The developer described the backend overhaul as a necessary step that should have happened several years ago but was delayed by resource constraints. With the new system in place, the game can now be translated into multiple languages for a broader audience.
The test build currently includes English text and a beta Chinese translation for players to review. The developer is actively working on official translations for Russian, German, and Brazilian Portuguese. These specific language projects are in development as the studio leverages the newly updated backend infrastructure.
Christoffer Bodegård stated, "The text system in the backend has been completely updated in the test build. This is exactly what I should have done several years ago, but I didn't have enough time then. Now everything is ready, which means the game can be translated!" This update marks a significant practical change for the game's accessibility, allowing non-English speakers to engage with the full narrative content once the translations are complete.
