Workers at Double Fine Productions, a game studio owned by Microsoft, have filed a petition to unionize. The move was announced on May 7, 2026, and involves 42 employees at the studio.

Union filing covers 42 employees.

The union is being formed with the Communication Workers of America (CWA). In a statement, the CWA said the decision aims to preserve and extend the studio's commitments to creative excellence, diversity and inclusion, and worker quality of life.

Microsoft has taken a neutral approach to the unionization effort. The petition was filed with the National Labor Relations Board.

The news was first reported by Aftermath. The outcome of the unionization vote remains to be seen.
