Dead by Daylight and Final Fantasy Tactics remove Denuvo DRM on PC. We look at how this publisher trend improves gameplay stability and reduces background conflicts.

PC gamers playing Dead by Daylight and FINAL FANTASY TACTICS – The Ivalice Chronicles no longer need to worry about Denuvo anti-tamper software running in the background. The removal is significant because anti-tamper technology can occasionally cause performance issues or compatibility conflicts with other software on Windows systems. Players who previously experienced stuttering or launch failures may find their gameplay smoother now that the protection layer is removed.

Publishers strip anti-tamper software to improve PC performance

Behaviour Interactive handled the removal for Dead by Daylight, while Square Enix applied the same change to FINAL FANTASY TACTICS – The Ivalice Chronicles. Both companies are part of a growing list of publishers that strip Denuvo protection from their PC titles after the initial launch window. This trend indicates a potential shift in how developers weigh the importance of piracy prevention against player experience.

The primary technical change is the complete removal of Denuvo from the PC versions of both games. Square Enix has a documented pattern of removing Denuvo from its PC releases post-launch, including titles like Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, Just Cause 3, The Diofield Chronicle, VALKYRIE ELYSIUM, TRIANGLE STRATEGY, LIVE A LIVE, Forspoken, Octopath Traveler, Octopath Traveler II, Star Ocean The Second Story R, and Final Fantasy 16. Capcom has also removed Denuvo from multiple PC titles including Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, Monster Hunter Rise, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Other publishers have followed similar paths, with KRAFTON removing it from The Callisto Protocol, NEOWIZ from Lies of P, Gearbox from Homeworld 3, Bandai Namco from CODE VEIN 2, Tekken 7, and NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER, IO Interactive from 007 First Light, Bethesda from Wolfenstein Youngblood, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Doom Eternal, and Doom: The Dark Ages, and Warner Bros from Mortal Kombat 11, Gotham Knights, and Back 4 Blood. We looked at Final Fantasy Tactics earlier while tracking Behaviour interactive, square enix launches.
