Firaxis has announced the Test of Time update for Civilization 7, launching on Tuesday, May 19. The update overhauls core systems including Ages and victory conditions. Alexander the Great will be added as a free leader for all players.
Triumphs system replaces Legacy Paths
The new Triumphs system replaces Legacy Paths with minor and major challenges. Minor Triumphs grant initial rewards, while Major Triumphs require long-term commitment and grant Dedications for the next Age. Victory conditions have been redesigned. For Military, Cultural, and Economic victories, players must push a certain percentage ahead of second place and hold it for five turns. For Science victory, players need to reach 100 Innovation, build a launch pad, and sustain a five-turn countdown to win the space race.

The update is available globally on May 19. Alexander the Great is free for all players alongside the Test of Time update.
Firaxis designer Kiera Boyle described the new victory accelerants as tools to close out victory or keep pace with opponents. Lead designer Bill Anderson said the goal is to encourage players to try to win earlier if they can manage it. Anderson added that he looks forward to players exploring the improved systems for more compelling victories.
