Just as ASUS adds OLED to its first handheld, they also bundle it with AR glasses (for reasons unknown).

ASUS has announced the ROG XBOX Ally X20 Bundle at Computex, a 20th anniversary edition of its gaming handheld series. This version is based on the ROG XBOX Ally X, but ASUS has changed the display, controls, cooling and exterior design.

The handheld still uses the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor with Radeon 890M graphics. ASUS pairs the chip with 24GB of LPDDR5X memory and 1TB of M.2 2280 NVMe storage. The system also keeps an 80Wh battery and Windows as the operating system.

The main upgrade is the screen. ASUS has moved from the 7-inch IPS-class panel used by the regular ROG XBOX Ally X to a 7.4-inch ROG Nebula HDR OLED panel. The screen has a 1920×1080 resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio and 120Hz refresh rate.

OLED comes to the ROG Ally series

The new panel supports VRR, FreeSync Premium Pro, Dolby Vision and VESA DisplayHDR 1000. ASUS lists up to 1,400 nits peak brightness and 0.2 ms response time. The display uses Corning DXC glass with an anti-reflective coating that ASUS says reduces glare by 65%.

ASUS also claims it reduced the top bezel from 9.5 mm to 3.78 mm. This allowed the company to fit a larger display into the same handheld format. The listed chassis dimensions are 300 × 121.1 × 51.3 mm, while the weight is 756 grams.

The second change is the chassis. ASUS is using a translucent black shell with a gold internal frame and gold-colored accents. This design marks 20 years of the ROG brand, which was formed in 2006. It also separates the X20 from the black ROG XBOX Ally X and the white ROG XBOX Ally.

The controls have been updated as well. The ROG XBOX Ally X20 uses TMR joysticks, which ASUS says are designed to reduce drift and improve tracking precision compared to Hall effect sensors. The handheld also has a Transforming D-Pad that can switch between four-way and eight-waycontrol, plus revised face buttons that sit flush with the chassis.

ASUS has also updated the cooling system for the OLED model. The company says OLED panels are more sensitive to heat than LCD screens, so the airflow path was changed to direct more air toward the APU and help reduce display surface temperatures. The listed cooling setup still uses a dual-fan design rated at 30 dBA.

AR glasses included in the bundle

The ROG XBOX Ally X20 will be sold as a bundle with the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses. These glasses use micro-OLED displays and create a 171-inch virtual screen at a viewing distance of 4 meters. ASUS lists a 240Hz refresh rate, 0.01 ms response time and native 3DoF tracking.

The glasses connect to the handheld through a single USB Type-C cable. They also support Anchor Mode, which keeps the virtual screen fixed in place while the user moves their head. The Edition 20 model uses a black and gold color scheme to match the handheld.

ASUS has not confirmed pricing or launch timing for the ROG XBOX Ally X20 Bundle. Since the package includes both the OLED handheld and the AR glasses, it will be sold above the regular ROG XBOX Ally X. ASUS says more information will be shared later this year.
