Google announced a major overhaul of the iOS-to-Android migration process in Android 17. The update aims to make switching from an iPhone 17 Pro to Android devices significantly easier. Google promises that the transition will be seamless for users moving to devices like the upcoming Pixel 11 Pro or Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Google simplifies switching from iPhone to Android with new data transfer tools

The migration tool will transfer a wide range of data types. Users can move media files, core data such as messages and contacts, and system settings like home screen layouts. The update also supports the transfer of eSIMs, email accounts, and saved passwords. Additionally, it will handle the installation of free apps along with their existing user data.

Samsung devices will receive the migration tool first with One UI 9.0. This update is expected to launch on the Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 in July 2026. The Pixel 11 Pro will receive the update later in the fall of 2026. Other Android original equipment manufacturers will get the feature later in the year.

Google also confirmed that Quick Share is expanding its reach. The service will provide native-like file sharing with AirDrop for iPhones and Macs. Devices from Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi will gain this capability throughout 2026. This expansion follows a successful pilot program on the Pixel 10.

Android 17 is expected to be fully unveiled at Google I/O 2026 on May 19. A stable official launch is anticipated as early as June or July 2026. The exact launch date for the stable version remains unconfirmed.
