Anbernic is reportedly working on two new handheld gaming devices inspired by discontinued Nintendo models. The RG 2DS takes after the Nintendo 2DS with a slate form factor, while the RG 3DS mimics the clamshell design of the Nintendo 3DS. Details emerged on the Chinese social network QQ.
Custom displays and modern upgrades rumored
Both handhelds are expected to feature a custom display setup. The main screen will offer a resolution of 1600×900, and a secondary display will run at 400×240. The RG 3DS will not include glasses-free 3D support, unlike the original Nintendo 3DS.
Rumors also suggest modern upgrades such as a USB-C port, a more powerful processor, better speakers, and a larger battery. The devices may ship with Android or Linux preinstalled. These features are not yet confirmed.
No release date or pricing has been announced for either handheld. The information remains unconfirmed until Anbernic makes an official statement.
