Switch owners lose paid game access without refunds as sequel launches

Cold Iron Studios developed the original Aliens: Fireteam Elite as a cloud-dependent experience. The Switch port functioned as a cloud-only release because the handheld hardware lacked the power to run the game natively. The developer did not offer refunds for the affected game. This approach left Switch owners with no local copy to preserve or play after the service ended.

The sequel, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, launches on August 25 on PC, PS5, and |S. Pricing for the new release includes a standard edition at 29.99 USD (around $29.99) and an Ultimate Edition at 59.99 USD (around $59.99). The Ultimate Edition bundles a collection of DLC content. These prices apply to the global market for the new platforms.

Switch owners will receive a discounted voucher for Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 as compensation for the loss of the original game. Details on eligibility for this voucher have not been finalized yet. The sequel is also coming to Switch 2 later this fall. This compensation model attempts to retain players within the franchise despite the service failure.
