Sega is expanding the roster of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds with free guest characters from its own classic franchises. This update allows players to use iconic characters without additional cost, which matters for fans who want to customize their racing teams without spending extra money. The immediate addition of Classic Sonic gives players a nostalgic option right now. This move signals a shift toward leveraging Sega's deep library of older IPs to keep the game fresh for its existing player base.

Sega expands roster with free guest characters from classic franchises

The game itself is a competitive racing title that has been receiving regular content updates since its launch. Sega is adding guest characters from spin-off series to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The new characters include Classic Sonic, Axel from Crazy Taxi, and Amigo from Samba de Amigo. These additions bring the total number of free Sega guest characters to 13.

Classic Sonic arrives as the first of these free guest characters, available to all players immediately. Following this, Axel from the Crazy Taxi series will join the game in August. This addition is tied to the upcoming release of Crazy Taxi: World Tour, linking the new character to a broader franchise revival. Amigo from Samba de Amigo is scheduled to arrive in September, continuing the monthly rollout of free content. These additions bring the total count of free Sega guest characters to thirteen.

Beyond the free updates, Sega is offering paid DLC packs for Year 1 of the game's lifecycle. These packs include collaborations with major franchises such as Minecraft, SpongeBob, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Avatar. The roadmap for Year 2 is also set, featuring collaborations with Godzilla and Evangelion. This structure provides players with clear expectations for both free and premium content over the next two years.

We touched on Sega Crazy Taxi Teaser Video Signals in our earlier Sega coverage. The current updates confirm that the Crazy Taxi franchise is indeed returning to modern platforms through this racing game. Paid DLC packs for Year 1 include Minecraft, SpongeBob, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Avatar. The Year 2 pass will feature collaborations with Godzilla and Evangelion.
