Koei Tecmo has released update 1.04.00 for the Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake, addressing long-standing progression and reward issues. This patch restores proper functionality for players stuck in Chapter 4 and ensures trophy progress is no longer lost during key gameplay moments. Buyers who paused the game due to these bugs can now continue without interruption.
Patch 1.04 resolves Light Key progression and trophy unlock errors
The update applies to the remake across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. Players on all these platforms receive the same version 1.04.00 build. This broad compatibility means the fix reaches the entire installed base of the title.

A primary fix resolves an event failure where the Light Key would not appear correctly in Chapter Four. The patch also corrects a bug that sometimes prevented achievements or trophies from unlocking when players obtained a Spirit Stone. These changes target specific mechanical blockers that hindered completionist progress.
The update includes general stability improvements and minor bug fixes to smooth out gameplay. A separate digital art book and soundtrack component received its own update, version 1.01.00, which also adds Arabic language support. The main game patch extends this Arabic language support to the core experience as well.
We looked at Gothic 1 Remake Update 1.000.004 Released earlier while tracking Koei tecmo launches. The Fatal Frame 2 update stands as a targeted fix for specific gameplay loops rather than a major content expansion. Players can now expect smoother trophy tracking and reliable chapter progression.
Koei Tecmo has confirmed that the progression bug and trophy unlock issue are resolved in this release. The addition of Arabic language support expands accessibility for new regions. The update is available now for all supported platforms.
