Ubisoft is cutting approximately 100 jobs at its San Francisco studio. This reduction affects the team responsible for developing XDefiant, an online multiplayer shooter. The move marks another step in a broader corporate restructuring effort that has already impacted other locations.
San Francisco studio reduces staff while XDefiant development continues
The company has previously closed studios in Winnipeg and Belgrade. These closures eliminated roughly 65 positions in Canada and 100 in Serbia. The San Francisco cut brings the total estimated number of jobs at risk across the entire organization to approximately 380.
Ubisoft reported a significant decline in its workforce over recent years. The employee count dropped from 20,729 in September 2022 to an estimated 16,590 by March 2026. This represents a reduction of nearly 20 percent in the company's total headcount.
Management stated that these targeted restructurings support a cost-reduction program running through March 2028. These job cuts are part of Ubisoft's broader restructuring plan aimed at reducing costs through March 2028. While the San Francisco studio develops the online multiplayer shooter XDefiant, the exact effect of these cuts on its schedule has not been specified.
