HoYoverse has announced a massive new initiative to build its own internal generative artificial intelligence infrastructure. The Shanghai-based publisher plans to spend 14.6 billion dollars on this project over the next three years.
Shanghai publisher builds proprietary GPU clusters and custom frameworks
This bold strategy focuses entirely on vertical integration rather than relying on licensed third-party models from external vendors. Liu Wei, who presented these details during a private session in Beijing, emphasized that building proprietary GPU clusters is essential for long-term control.
The new AI systems will power core game features within Petit Planet to automate coding pipelines and deliver real-time content personalization. These custom frameworks aim to streamline development workflows while allowing the studio to tailor experiences specifically for its users.
Liu Wei warned that if this ambitious pipeline fails to meet its targets, the company would view the financial loss as merely an elaborate fireworks display. This comment highlights the significant technical risks inherent in constructing a proprietary AI stack from scratch.
