Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio confirmed that its upcoming game Stranger Than Heaven contains no generative AI in character development. The studio director stated the team relies on traditional methods for creating characters and dialogue. The studio's position differs from increasing industry trends toward using automated tools for large-scale game development.

Director Masayoshi Yokoyama explains the studio's commitment to traditional character creation and dialogue writing methods.

Stranger Than Heaven launches globally on January 15, 2027. The game ships on Xbox Series X|S, , and . Sega publishes the title through its internal development division.

Masayoshi Yokoyama, director of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, told reporters that the studio does not use generative AI for character creation in Stranger Than Heaven. He noted that non-generative AI tools handle routine debugging tasks. The use of non-generative AI for debugging is consistent with common industry practices for software testing.

Yokoyama warned that market shifts toward massive open-world titles could force studios to reconsider their stance on automation. He cited Grand Theft Auto VI as an example of the scale players expect. The director said every publisher would need to evaluate generative AI if demand reaches that level.

The studio maintains its current development approach while acknowledging potential future changes. Stranger Than Heaven remains a traditional character-driven experience without automated generation tools. Players will experience fully handcrafted dialogue and narrative arcs across |S, Steam, and PlayStation 5.
