OnePlus 15 Gets AirDrop Support via Quick Share Update

OnePlus 15 gains AirDrop interoperability through a Quick Share app update, enabling direct file transfers with Apple devices starting June 9.

OnePlus 15 gains AirDrop interoperability through an update to the Android Quick Share app. The feature rollout started on June 9 and allows direct file transfers between Apple devices and the OnePlus smartphone. Users do not need a full system update to access this capability.

Direct file transfers between Apple devices and the OnePlus smartphone now work without a full system update

The device runs OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16 and uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. This software integration lets the phone tap into Apple's AirDrop protocol for cross-platform sharing. The implementation relies on an app-level change rather than a deeper operating system modification.

Quick Share handles the actual data transfer between devices without using cloud storage as an intermediary. Files move directly from one device to another while maintaining their original quality. The method maintains fast transfer speeds and prevents the quality loss often seen with legacy file-sharing tools.

Older OnePlus models like the OnePlus 13 currently do not support this AirDrop interoperability feature. Google has not publicly explained what hardware criteria determine eligibility for the protocol integration. Chipset compatibility appears to play a role in which devices receive access to the feature.

Starting on June 9, the feature became available through a simple Google Play Store update for the Quick Share application rather than a complete operating system upgrade. By focusing on specific devices, OnePlus can introduce cross-platform compatibility rapidly without disrupting the experience for its broader user base.

OnePlus 15 now joins the list of Android phones that support AirDrop interoperability through Quick Share. The feature provides a practical way to share files with Apple users without relying on third-party apps or cloud services.
