Modder Justin Marshall released a new video showcasing the Doom 3 Path Tracing Mod. The project aims to bring modern rendering features to the classic idTech 4 engine used by id Software.

The mod introduces improved global illumination and path-traced lit particles. It also implements idTech 5-style screen-space decal stamping and POM relief mapping. A component called IceBridge serves as a Direct3D 12 renderer layer to enable these modern GPU features.
The update supports running the Doom 3 Alpha/E3 build content within the modded environment. The project remains in a work-in-progress state with visual bugs and performance issues that require further polish.
A new HD Texture Pack featuring PBR materials will likely be required for the full implementation of this path tracing technology. This suggests future development from other modders to complete the visual overhaul.
id Software has not confirmed any official involvement or release plans for this community-driven enhancement.
