Surface Laptop Ultra from Microsoft highlights its repairability, which can be crucial for users looking to maximize the lifespan and minimize e-waste. Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra scores a repairability score of 8 out of 10 from iFixit, which is twice that of Apple M5 MacBook Pro. This means that the laptop may have an easier time to replace some of the important components compared to many other premium laptops out there.

iFixit teardown highlights replaceable SSD and screw-secured battery in Microsoft laptop

The device comes with a 120 Hz mini-LED display, 3:2 aspect ratio and an RTX Spark GPU. The 92 Wh battery inside the Surface Laptop Ultra is screwed in. You also get a replaceable M.2 SSD inside the chassis. But unfortunately, RAM is soldered on the motherboard and isn't upgradeable by the user.

Key Repairability Features

  • Repairability Score: 8 out of 10
  • Storage: Replaceable M.2 SSD
  • Battery: 92 Wh, secured with screws
  • Display: 120 Hz Mini-LED, 3:2 aspect ratio
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX Spark

Microsoft released an official repair manual when the device went official. There will also be the availability of genuine spare parts by iFixit. The teardown points out that replacing speakers and ports is easy and a big plus point for repairmen. Although the keyboard replacement needs full chassis teardown, still it is designed for repairability.

You can get the Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra for $3,299 USD (around $3,299) on Amazon. We've been following Surface Laptop Ultra and earlier shared how Microsoft gives up to $1,000 cash back for MacBook Pro users to switch to this. The high repairability score of Surface Laptop Ultra can be a practical benefit for those who care more about long-term repairability and access to components.
