Nintendo’s warning Switch 2 owners to lose their storage at a faster rate. The upcoming Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will require a large amount of storage space for Switch 2 compared to the other entries in the series. As such, players will have to make a lot of decisions for their game library to clear space before the launch window is over. Those who have filled up their storage cards will have to remove old games or buy external storage if they want to continue.
Nintendo warns Switch 2 owners to clear space for the large download
The game itself is designed for the new Switch 2 which has a minimum internal storage of 256 GB internally. This can quickly fill up if you’re trying to install the big, modern games. Nintendo is directly telling folks this particular Zelda game requires more storage than previous titles. They recommend clearing off unwanted games or use MicroSD Express cards to deal with the larger file sizes.
- File Size: 27 GB
- File Size (UK eShop): 24.5 GB
- File Size (US eShop): 27 GB
- Console Storage: 256 GB
There’s a slight difference in file sizes depending on your region on digital store platforms. On the U.S. eShop, you’re looking at a 27 GB file size for the game. The UK’s eShop will show you a smaller 24.5 GB file size.
This is already larger than The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which is at 24.1 GB, and Tears of the Kingdom which will take 20.1 GB. Now, Nintendo is warning it requires more storage on the Switch 2 version of the game.
It’s possible the final file size may change throughout the setup process. There might be temporary files required to set everything up that will be removed after. Or, perhaps, Nintendo has a day-one update prepared for the Ocarina of Time release date. This update could change the disk space required after the initial download has been completed.
We covered the last update for Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Some similar themes of balance and stability were discussed. But, this time, the warnings are all about hardware limitations, not gameplay changes. Make sure you have plenty of space before downloading the installer so you don’t get interrupted.

27 GB is a lot for a remake. My storage is already full.
