The Samsung Galaxy S27 base model has been certified by UL Solutions in Denmark and confirms its wired charging speed. The fact that it is capped at 25W, the same as the previous generation means no improvement is being seen for regular users. So, if you were hoping for improved charging speeds for the base model, it seems we're still stuck with the status quo.
Certification confirms base model retains previous generation charging speed
We've seen that the certification documents list a whole bunch of global model numbers including SM-S952U (US) and SM-S9520 (China). Samsung would be filing this information to get all the necessary regulatory out of the way before the device can land on store shelves. The document outlines all the different model variants that will be available in Canada, Japan, Europe, and South Korea suggesting that it will be an international release.
- Wired Charging Speed: 25W (9V DC / 2.77A)
- Certification Body: UL Solutions (Demko)
- Model Numbers: SM-S952U, SM-S952U1, SM-S952W, SM-S9520, SC-51H, SM-S952Q, SM-S952Z, SM-S952B, SM-S952B/DS, SM-S952N
The document specifies that it will have a power input of 9V DC, 2.77A which translates to around 24.93W. This is rounded up to the typical marketing claim of 25W as we've seen on Samsung devices in the past. And that's all we know about the wired charging speed on this particular filing.
The wireless charging speed and battery capacity of the base model is still unconfirmed by this certification. While we assume that the S27 will still use the 15W standard for wireless charging as seen in the S26, it is still unconfirmed. Regional Exynos and Snapdragon chipsets splits are also still unconfirmed with these documents.
We've been following the Galaxy S27 series quite closely and have covered something earlier about the Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro, Ultra Certification that confirmed 60W for the larger devices. The slower charging speed on the base model really shows the differentiation between the base and the premium models. We assume Samsung will have more to share as we inch closer to the official launch date.

Still 25W. Samsung is dragging its feet on the base model.
The Pro gets 60W. The base stays at 25W. It is a clear tiering strategy.
ugh. 25w in 2025 feels cheap 😅
Does the UL certification mention the battery capacity for the SM-S952U model or is that still missing from the docs?
The document only lists the 9V DC at 2.77A input. Battery size is not in this filing.
I just want to know if the Exynos chip is still going to run hot or if they fixed that thermal issue from last year.
25W is fine if the battery is efficient. I care more about the Snapdragon split than the charging wattage.
They are saving charging tech for the premium tier. Buy the Pro if you want speed.
ngl I might stick with my S22 for longer if the base model gets no upgrades 😬
The article notes the input is 24.93W. They round up to 25W for marketing but the hardware is technically lower.
I will just import the Korean version if the local price is high. The SM-S952N usually has the same internals.
