Nintendo reportedly working on a budget version of its next gen handheld i.e. Switch 2 Lite. This is done to make it more affordable for new gamers as component prices are going up across the industry. Such a budget version could bring its next console within the reach of many gamers who might find its standard price too steep. We've been following Nintendo Switch 2 Lite rumored to use Samsung chip to cut 15% power consumption in this respect to bring down costs.
Budget handheld drops Joy-Cons and dock to lower manufacturing costs
The budget version (Lite) is rumored to have a cheaper processor which would help cut down on its manufacturing costs. With this approach the features like detachable Joy-Cons, and dock will be left out in order to simplify things. It might come with a smaller 60Hz display and 128GB of internal storage. All of this would be aimed at the casual gamers who don't require the premium experience of standard Switch 2.
The price point rumored for this Lite version is $299. This would definitely be a significant drop from standard console release price points. Also, we can expect to see a comeback for Nintendo's Nintendo Selects.
These would be old games retailing at $19.99 to $29.99. This could possibly open the door to a more affordable entry option for budget-minded consumers by pairing it with affordable games.
Increasing costs of DRAM and GPUs are a concern for competitors such as Steam Deck and PS5. In the same respect, Nintendo is also facing cost concerns that might affect its next console generation. By introducing a lower-priced Lite version, it could absorb some of the rising component costs. We're hearing that Nintendo may be thinking of a segmented product range that could cater to different market needs.

tbh if the joycons are gone i just want a better battery life. $299 is still steep for a stripped down handheld. 🤔
removing the dock does not automatically lower manufacturing costs. you still need a decent screen and memory. this feels like a margin play not a cost saving one
