Billet Labs builds a fanless gaming PC using passive water cooling for an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and Nvidia RTX 5080, maintaining stability under load.

Billet Labs built a custom gaming PC that runs entirely without fans. The system combines an Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor with an 5080 graphics card. The manufacturer relies on passive liquid cooling to manage heat from these high-performance components.

Custom system sustains high-end components without active fans

The cooling setup uses three aluminum heat sinks measuring 40 by 20 centimeters, 28 by 14 centimeters, and 24 by 12 centimeters. A passive water loop circulates coolant between the heat sinks based on temperature differences alone. The motherboard is a Gigabyte Aorus Pro B850 unit mounted on an eight millimeter thick aluminum plate with thermal pads. The build also includes 32 gigabytes of RAM, a 2 terabyte SSD, and a 600 watt power supply.

The PC operates stably under heavy workloads despite the lack of active cooling. Idle coolant temperature sits at 28 degrees Celsius. Running Cinebench for thirty minutes raises the CPU to 90 degrees Celsius while the coolant reaches 39 degrees Celsius. Gaming in Cyberpunk 2077 pushes the coolant above 55 degrees Celsius, which exceeds recommended levels for long-term component health.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 graphics card costs 1299 USD (about $1,299). Billet Labs has not announced a retail price or release date for this specific fanless system. The project demonstrates that passive cooling can sustain high-end gaming hardware without immediate thermal throttling.

Long-term reliability remains unconfirmed due to the elevated coolant temperatures under load. VideoCardz reported on the build, which originated from a demonstration by Billet Labs.
