Electronic Arts is laying off about 3% of their global workforce which equates to about 400 employees in their various studios. The layoffs are a result of restructuring due to the new ownership from the Saudi Public Investment Fund's acquisition of the publisher in August and the major operational changes set to take place. Layoffs include developers working on major titles like those behind Battlefield 6.
EA cuts 400 jobs in Ripple Effect and Motive studios
The layoffs specifically include developers from Ripple Effect and Motive Studio. These studios fall under the umbrella of Battlefield Studios. They were involved in the development of Battlefield 6 which released in October.
The game went on to become the best-selling premium game of 2025. Despite its commercial success, internal teams involved with the game during its launch and live service were not exempted from the layoffs.
EA says that they learned a lot about the launch and live service of Battlefield 6. They intend to take what they learned and strike a balance with the resources they have and utilize technology to better serve their shooter titles. The strategy is to better unlock growth by being efficient in development when it comes to its gaming segments.
Ripple Effect and Motive suffered the layoffs but the DICE studio was unaffected by these cuts. DICE is rumored to be working with Respawn Entertainment on a future project. This seems to indicate that development is going to be shifted around instead of stopping. The specific number of jobs cut at Ripple Effect and Motive is not disclosed, however, it is confirmed that this is the extent of the impact on the global EA workforce.
