Thanks to the work of one fan, Grand Theft Auto IV has been successfully ported to the hacked PlayStation 5, proving that there's life left in older console games if the community puts their mind to it. The fan-made port of GTA IV allows players to enjoy the 2008 game on modern consoles without the need for an official remaster.
Enthusiast uses AI to adapt 2008 game for modern PlayStation 5 hardware
The GTA IV port was created by fan enthusiast Ruben Ripalda as part of OZORDI's Liberty Recompiled project. To play the game on their hacked PS5, Ripalda leverages the Xbox 360 disc image as the base for the game files.
The GTA IV port includes modern controller features and AI help. To support the DualSense controller, include trophies, and change the button labels to fit the PS5 controller layout, Ripalda made use of the AI app Claude.
You can also transfer save files from the original Xbox 360 GTA IV port to the new one. The development team says that the dependence on AI coding (vibe-coding) for so many parts of the project might mean that it will be harder for the community to maintain and optimize going forward.
Rockstar Games has yet to comment on the GTA IV port. According to a source, Rockstar may try to block the project, though there is no news of such attempts at this time.
