Gearbox Software has removed Denuvo DRM from the PC version of Borderlands 4 one year after launch, leading to an immediate crack.

The game dev, Gearbox Software has done a Denuvo anti-tamper removal from the PC version of the game Borderlands 4. This update is important because players have been upset about the game's DRM being a possible reason for performance issues. Denuvo removal happened about a year after the game's initial release and was something the PC community has been upset about.

PC version instantly cracked after anti-tamper removal

This update affects only the PC version of the game, as made by the game dev Gearbox software. Previously, players were claiming that both the Denuvo software and Unreal engine 5 structure were a reason for stuttering and lagging gameplay. With this update, the focus is directly onto the anti-cheat system, as opposed to the actual engine structure.

The update simply uninstalls the Denuvo software elements from the game files. This is interesting, as it is part of a trend where major games tend to remove digital rights management after a year of initial release. However, this is only for PC and does not affect console game versions of the game.

After the Denuvo removal happened, the game was cracked by hackers just a little after. Even with the Denuvo removal, there is still mention of Denuvo on the store page description. This mismatch between the store and actual game is not fixed at the time of writing this.

The Denuvo removal is a factual update to the PC version of the Borderlands 4 game. The game is still available, but the online store page of the game is still not updated. Players can now play the game without the specific DRM that was the center of debate around the game's performance.
