Here’s a Diablo modder turning the good old-fashioned isometric action-RPG into a 3D FPS which obviously changes the way you interact and move through the world completely. So not only this is a new perspective on the original game for the veterans, but also the whole tactical vibe of the original still holds strong. And if you’re a fan of traditional mouse and keyboard gameplay, well, the perspective is certainly more up to modern FPS standards.
Modder Drelvak adds 3D FPS perspective and local multiplayer to classic ARPG
Yes, Diablo's modder Drelvak is working on a massive mod of the original Blizzard Entertainment game. The modder is planning to turn the original top-down game view into a 3D FPS first-person perspective. So basically we will be exploring the dark fantasy world from a whole new point of view.

And of course, the modder has confirmed that the mod is slowly but surely getting off the ground. In fact, the modder claims that they are half-way done.
So, the mod itself still works the same way as the original, i.e. cells movement. So the whole tactical pace of the game is still the same. Of course, you can instantly jump from the good old classic isometric view to the new 3D FPS first-person perspective.
With just the press of a G key. So basically you can go back and forth between the classic and the new immersive perspective anytime during the gameplay.
The modder added local network multiplayer. And the modder already tested it on a local network. So UI-scale problems of the previous attempts were fixed.
This means that now you can freely change HUD scale, no matter what isometric zoom level you have. The modder is also using in-game cutscenes assets in order to build authentic 3D locations, skyboxes. So it just looks that much better for this new perspective.
We were keeping an eye on Diablo. For example, we wrote about Blizzard Confirms Diablo 5 and StarCraft in the past, so it's quite clear that Diablo still gets a lot of attention. And look at this mod, this proves that original game engine is still capable of massive structural changes decades after the original release.
For now, it's still work in progress. So no official release date or public download link yet.
