Retroid announces the release date for its first Dual Screen Android handheld. The weeks-long guessing game on when users can buy the Retroid Pocket Duo has come to an end. The release date is on October 21.

Dual 120Hz OLED screens and Snapdragon Q-7790 define the handheld
A definite date is now given on when retro gamers can purchase the handheld with the horizontally-split screen. This release is important because it’s the first of its kind. An unique handheld that cares more about the ability to play vertical games more so than the standard clamshell-styled Android handheld.
- Screen Configuration: Dual 120Hz OLED panels
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon Q-7790
- Form Factor: Android clamshell

The Qualcomm Snapdragon Q-7790, the same processor in the Retroid Pocket Duo Lite which is currently on the market, powers this device. It boasts a dual 120Hz OLED screen setup that has two separate 120Hz displays. The goal with this hardware is to cater to users who value high refresh rates for emulation purposes while keeping the unique aspect ratio for playing Nintendo 3DS games.
The Retroid original Pocket Duo is going to start its shipping process on October 21, confirmed by community manager Chris Covers. The Pocket Duo Lite Plus version is on the horizon and will be out in November 2024. It also has the same processor as the original.
Users can apply the coupon code DUO for 20 USD off during the pre-order sale. The offer is available until October 31.
Some reviewers point to the DPad-top as a design issue. Mainly for Nintendo 3DS-based users. It’s an ergonomic problem.
It’s about finding the right balance between the split screen and how the buttons are set up. The Pocket Duo Lite is available to buy now. So, there’s an opportunity for early users to try it out before the main model.
